I don't know a lot about inks, but I think that the umbrella inks in this clear flint glass are quite a bit more scarce than the aquas that you see quite a bit. I really like this one - it has almost a smoky gray tint to the glass.
Very nice, Cindy. I would love to find a pontiled flint glass example to add to my umbrella collection. My only pontiled flint glass piece is a nice, larger rectangular medicine that I dug this past spring. Even those are almost always aqua, so I was quite pleased to find that one. ~Jim
Thanks Jim. I clicked on your website (which is very impressive) and noticed that you have two pretty amazing inks in your photo gallery - the citron umbrella, and the green cone ink. Again, I am not real knowledgeable about inks, but that cone ink looks pretty scarce to me......
That is a cool little ink you have Cindy, much rarer than amber or green. Come to think of it, I don't think I have ever dug a shard to a clear umbrella and have only seen a handful in collections and at shows.
Thanks, Cindy. I'm glad you like my site. I need to get better pictures of some of my local bottles. That will give me something to do when the winter weather foils my digging plans.
I was thrilled to get those two inks. They both came from the same pit at an 1840 house. The green pontiled cone is a very rare ink. The umbrella is pretty hard to come by in that color as well. I don't get the privilege of digging pieces like those very often, but they sure make all of the bad, empty and junk-filled pits "hurt" a lot less []. ~Jim
