Late Friday morning, my buddy Doug and Ii headed back to the homesite where we have been steadily probing and digging the privy pits. It only took about 5 minutes of poking to stick this one. Lots of crunch, starting at 4 feet. Here's "Ramar" Doug throwing dirt, headin' to the use layer.

This pontilled carboy base turned up, teasing us into hoping that this hole would produce some older stuff.

As it turned out, the privy only went back to the late 1890s, and most of the decent bottles were broken. An applied top Warner's K & L Cure was undamaged, though.. That and a few others made the trip worthwhile, I guess.

Some applied top local soda springs bottles showed up at the bottom, including one rare edition. All the embossed whiskey fifths were shattered. That's just the way it seems to go. LOL

I almost cried when I saw this piece. Wouldn't you know it, a VERY scarce whiskey, but done for. It would have been a Boulevard OK Bourbon, Henry Buneman, Sole Agent, SF. The embossing is contained within a life preserver motif. Should'a could'a would'a. Bummer.

All in all, it was a fun dig, despite the unquality of the majority of the bottles.

While I was in the hole and prior to backfillin' it, I decided to probe in all direction to see if that one had a neighbor.
Oops...snap, crunch. There is another pit 3 feet from that one. Too hard to get through from the top, so I probably would not have found that one
had we probed from the surface. I guess that we'll head back on Tuesday to see what that one holds. I'm keepin' my toes and fingers crossed.
