Gay-Ola - Newport, Tenn.

Newport is another of those T-tiny towns and none of the locals remember a Gay-Ola co there.

Gay-Ola in pretty script on both shoulders above smaller block letters stating, "It's Better." On the base, one side says, "Newport Bottling Works, Newport, Tenn." The other says, "This bottle never sold." Nothing is on the bottom....

Sorry my photo taking skills leave something to be desired on these pics. Guess I wasn't in the mood that day.

I see one of these Newport Shoulder-Script Gay-Olas every now and then but not one that looks as nice as this.

Newport Bottling Works was in business by 1909 when they added an ice plant. Since Gay-Ola came out in 1910 and the Design-Patented Four Ring Bottle was made mandatory in 1914 as a result of their suit with Coca-Cola it must date 1910-14.

What's the farthest from Gay-Ola Home Office of Memphis you've seen a bottle? I have a 24-bottle Gay-Ola crate from Grand Rapids Michigan.

hey kathy, nice bottle i live in knoxville, and make deliverys for work to newport, ive never seen that bottle got to be rare,i did see one once from coal creek tn,as im driving thru newport i always am wondering where the dumps are........... mike
