My friend Bob had offered some of these on this forum in the past. I recently found just under 300 of them in that same lake his came from. Many have the rubber gaskets still on the end. Patent dates are 1864 and 1884 on these. Many very nice examples. If you need one or 100 for your bottles, I have them. Let me know. tfredrich@hotmail.com. Make an offer. I was thinking around $3.00 a piece or less if you buy quantity? Thanks!
Tom

Here is a shot of a few of the bottles that were near these stoppers. One is a very rare spiral spring stopper soda that pre dated the Matthews bottles.

Fantastic find and an interesting stopper. I had gotten a few of them from your friend Bob, no doubt. They are in FL in a box on my desk, so I can't read the paper work on them. I also do not have a bottle that uses this stopper. It is just interesting to have a glass industry namesake memento.
I would like to have one or two with the ring on them, though. Best regards and thanks for the pictures. RED Matthews

Hey Tom,
You really did land the mother-load there. I remember how excited I was to find those. Looks to be some crude ones with bubbles and flaws in there. Tons of rubber seals too! Amazing.

I also love the other glass you pulled out of there. I still do not have a whole example of a Matthews bottle (but maybe someday). Great dive. Great glass!

I got one of these from Cap a while back , I have only one bottle that takes this kind of stopper . Tried to put the blasted thing into the bottle and half broke the rubber piece trying to install it . Thought it would have been really neat to have had it in the bottle for display . No way would it go into mine .
