Hello All, Pictured is a Graham Glass Co thermometer with the slogan "Fire Finished Bottles", a process which they submitted in 1923 and was given patent in 1927. This being unusual as most of their adverts touted "Blown Upside Down".[attachment=IMG_1260.JPG] [attachment=IMG_1261.JPG] [attachment=IMG_1262.JPG]

Quite intriguing! I wonder if by blowing a bottle upside down, the mold seams in the lip and neck would be more pronounced? Some early ABM sodas in my collection have ridiculously sharp mold lines in the lip/neck area, and others of the same age you can barely see the mold lines. Maybe it's all nonsense, but I figured I'd throw it out there.

That's about it Taylor. From old ads they were first blown upside down for a better neck and crown finish and the turned over aromatically to finish the base.
Fire finished I think was part of the annealing at a higher temperature and gave it a better finish but not so hot as to get the glass back to a molten state. That part is a guess.
