I posted this some time ago on a less-trafficked website, but to no avail.

I found this figural bottle in a trash dump last summer. I found one place that has it for sale asking $225, but really can't find any info about it. I know that there is a version of a baby crying and, I have heard, that there is one of a famous preacher of the day, but I can't remember his name nor have I seen it.

This is what I do know: Embossed on lower front Granger. On the back it says "Patented/June 2nd 1874". 6 1/2 inches tall. On the bottom it says "T P S & Co NY". Anybody know anything about this figural? What is was used for? Year? Etc.?

There was a fairly recent thread on those bottles. I would post a link to it but I never have been able to get the #$*&^$* search to work on this forum.

I can tell you that Kovell had it listed:
Category Bottle
Pattern or Item Figural
Description Bust, Granger, Pat. June 2, 1874
Year 1997
Price $35.00

And I can tell you that the figural represents this guy:

JAMES GRAINGER. [Born, 1721. Died, 1766.] Dr. James Grainger, the translator of Tibullus, was for some time a surgeon in the army; he afterwards attempted, without success, to obtain practice as a physician in London, and finally settled in St. Kitt's, where he married the governor's daughter. The novelty of West Indian scenery inspired him with the unpromising subject of the Sugar-cane, in which he very poetically dignifies the poor negroes with the name of " swains."*
I dont know about the TPS co. Sorry I know its not much. If I find more I will post for you.
Good luck,
Jeff

I tried to search the forum first, but I couldn't find anything. I didn't think that it was worth a lot necessarily. I just wanted some info about the origin and use, maybe when and where it was made.

Thanks, wish I could figure out the search engine.

I guess the determination is the bottles were various hair products.

Awesome feedback! I would love to collect all three. I have never seen a Henry Ward Beecher one for sale though.
