today I had some time so I hit the Gold Rush flea market that was going on in town, and im sure glad I did! I knew that MINNESOTADIGGER had already been through, but I made some pretty good buys none the less!First off is a minty as mint gets applied lip coffin flask! These early but post-pontil flasks are a favorite of mine, so I buy them almost whenever I see them.it is marked on the bottom M.G.Co in the typical Mississippi Glass Company style, and I believe it dates from the first portion of this glass companies existence in the 1870s. It is very crude with a crooked, sloppy applied lip, some potstones with swirls of amber/yellow-green glass swirling off, a dent on one side, a bulge on the other, and quite a few big bubbles. and all of this for only 5 bucks!

this next one I got purely because I thought the closure was neat, and it was pretty cheap.it is embossed MC HEALD & Co 6-12 COMMERCIAL ST/ LYNN MASSThe closure is weird. it has a hole in the top that looks like it goes all the way into the bottle...if anyone knows what this is called, or at least a place I can look for it, that would be awesome!

This last one really blew my socks off, especially since it predates civilization in this area by a good 60 years or so!It is a free blown (or dip mold or something) and very very early cylinder whiskey/ ale bottle, most likely of European origin. It is crude as hell, with hundreds of bubbles, a very wavy, uneven base, and that classic ridiculous double collar lip. judging by the crudity and shape, I want to date this in the 1770-1790 area (correct me if im wrong, but don't tell me it is from 1810 because I will cry... I really want a bottle from the 1700s). the best part is what I paid for it... $20!!!! the guy wanted the same amount for an abm lashes bitters! I almost felt bad paying that little for it (almost [:D]) the guy had a cool coffin flask also that im hopefully going back for tomorrow, among other bottles I regret not bringing home. This was a spectacular day at the flea for me, 95% because of this bottle. I was shaking when I picked it up. Thanks for lookin' and ill update this tomorrow if I bring anything new home!

Hello Spencer. I believe your bottle could date from about 1780 to all the way up until 1840 or 50 depending on where it was made. England Germany Holland France Spain, take your pick. So it could date to the time you want because it would be hard to place it exactly for the most part. Nice and crude bottle anyways............Andy

The bottle with the mysterious stopper kind of resembles a Thatcher 1901 Closure. It occurred on bottles from 1901-1910.PATENT On SODASANDBEERS it is listed on 21 bottles (although yours is not one of them), some of the bottles are from MASS. Here is the old liquor store:

2find4me is right, either Thatcher or Aetna Bottle & Stopper Co., which purchased the Thatcher patent. Their main factory was in Providence, RI. Nice looking blob!
