Hello,

I was wondering if you could help me identify this bottle I recently purchased. It came from a gentlemen who lived in Seattle and worked in a Naval shipyard. I believe he moved there in 1928. It reminds me of the typical things you find in old insulator glass with snot, amber swirls, whittles and small/large bubbles. The bottom glass stand looks like it could have had a label on the bottom at one point or maybe it was just sitting too long somewhere. It measures 5 3/8" in height overall and the base diameter measures 2 15/16". The pictures I have of it doesn't show the true color of it very much but its close. I'm guessing that it could be an inkwell/paperweight type of bottle used on a ship perhaps? I have no idea what else it could have been used for other than display or for ink. I've seen a few other pictures that suggest it might have been made from the New York State Glass House. I was also told it might be a 20th century(20s-30s) bottle blown by Emil Larson? Any information would be very helpful, thanks.

- Jake

Welcome. It's interesting for sure.
It doesn't scream old to me but it
may have been an earlier whimsy
piece. I'm not that good at pinning
down factories.
If you can crop your pictures a little
they'll fit better.

Hello Jake,

Welcome to these parts and thanks for bringing this bottle. I think you might be on to something with the Larson lead. He was famous for his flask reproductions and paperweights. This piece looks like a pocket flask mated with a paperweight to me. Is it heavy?

You can see some Larson pieces if you do a little googlin. Check out this page from The Corning Museum.

There's a coupla Larson flasks for sale over here.

Hello,

It is heavy and thick glass, weighing 21.2 oz. It looks like the foot/stand was applied. I believe it some sort of whimsy paperweight due to the size of the foot/stand. Thanks for the help everyone. I took a few more pictures yesterday but not sure if they are of in any help..

hello,

I now believe that this bottle might actually be from Italy. I bought a candy dish from the same estate sale that had matchboxes in it from Italy and his name was Joe Morganti. The estate description said they got married in Seattle on 1938. He might have just visited Italy on vacation and picked it up there as a souvenir? If you search for bottles, etc. from Italy you can see a lot off them are usually footed. I'll continue looking, thanks.

Hi Jake, I hope you don't think I'm trying to offend you, I'm just trying to help. I'm working on updating the adding pictures tutorial now. I see that you cropped but the apparently they re-sized as well.
Her's what should happen, it depends on the program you use though I guess.
