I found this red lamp, without the globe or burner. How do I date the darned thing. It has one band or thread going around the lip for the screw on top.
The next picture is of a green vase with etched flowers, filled with gold leaf. How do I determine if it is real gold?
Thanks.

The vase. How to determine gold leaf?
The little bottle was said to come from Germany and is a Cuckoo (trad Mark) with a picture of a cockoo bird. What was in it? It is a TOC BIM.

It is hard to date anything like this without knowing the styles made. They still grind lips on stuff like that lamp so that doesn't indicate a date. All I can contribute is that most all if not all the lamps I dig both broken and intact are not threaded on the top. Most are sheared and would have had the brass cemented on.I don't dig much newer than 1920 if that helps.I do notice alot of screwtop ones in antique shops that look newer.Dealers say they are old but I find it odd they don't show up( even shards ) in privies.

The lamp was made after 1900. The screw on top is the give away. Rub your finger across the gold on the vase and if you can feel all the little bumps, lines and valleys then it is likely gold leaf.

The lamp is definately after 1900. When the automatic bottling machines started replacing blown bottles they replace the hand made lamps too.
