In the basement of my house I have found a large (maybe 2 feet tall by 1.5 feet by 1.5 feet) bottle marked "Mount Vernon Whiskey" It is marked "for display purposes only" on the side.

I am able to see a seam along one edge, but suspect the bottle is very old due to lage bubbles in the glass throughout.

The label itself appears to be painted on the glass and contains text stating "Bottled by bond of the U.S. Government." as well as other statements. No dates are visible.

This bottle is square and large, and feels fragile when i pick it up. Net searces have revealed nothing about this bottle or company.

I will post pictures as soon as possible.

tik,
That's intriguing. I hunt in an area where I find lots of Mt Vernon items...this is Mt Vernon Ohio. There's obviously the more famous Mt Vernon of George Washington fame....located in Virginia, I believe. Actually, I think a lot of states have towns named Mt Vernon. Do you know what town this bottle may be named after?
