I’m looking to buy bottles from South Florida.

Does anyone have any bottles from South Florida that they would consider parting with? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Very nice Miami Steam Bottling Works/Miami, Fla.

I recently learned through Tod Van Mechow's research that the monogram initials CC most likely represents the name C. Castellano. He was an Itailian immigrant born in 1864. He is listed in the 1900 Miami Florida census as a bottling works owner. There is a collector in the Ocala area and one in the West Palm Beach area I could put you in touch with that have more information on early South Florida bottlers, both very knowledgable.

I also found ads and articles in Miami News Papers that date the following operators of the Miami Steam Bottling/Bottling Works.

1911 Miami Bottling Works (Gowan & Phillips) moving from 12th St West of the Railroad to Hill Bros Building on 13th St West of Ave D (November 14, 1911)

1906-1907 Miami Bottling Works (Wall & McGowan) 12Th St near RR (August 27, 1906 - October 11, 1907)

1903-1906 Miami Bottling Works (Wall & Dickinson) 12Th St near RR (April 17, 1903 - August 18, 1906)

1900 Miami Steam Bottling Works (J. I. Turnage) Box 84 (April 27, 1900 - November 2, 1900) (involved in Ideal Bottling Works 1901 to 1903+)

1899 Miami Bottling Works (C. Castellano) (January 5, 1899 October 12, 1899)

1898 Miami Steam Bottling Works (?) (Carl Zapf) (August 25, 1898)

Attached are articles that support the above and you may find interesting.

I found an archeology paper that states one bottle was found in the ruins of 1899 hotel fire and that lines up nicely with the newspaper ads. So it appears he was only in business in 1899, but may have leased the factory to J. I. Turnage in 1900.

Castellano may have been in Jacksonville (1910 census lists a guy that appears to be his as fruits in Jacksonville) prior to and after his stay in Miami, but he was back in Miami in 1935, when a Census was take and in it he he is listed as a produce dealer.
