Interesting bottle, "The Liquid" with paper label

I'm quite sure that everyone has seen these straight sided bottles and hutchinsons before and wondered what that word on the bottom "The Liquid" meant. I've even seen Starr X bottle openers that said "The Liquid". Most are expensive for some reason. Well I came across a SS version that still had the paper label on it so now I finally know what this is. The paper label reads:

The Best Liquid

is an unexcelled preparation for beautifying, restoring, and preserving the complexion and skin.

It removes sunburn, freckles, pimples, tan & c. & c.

It is recomended and used by the best ladies of our country.

Then it states the directions.

Beware of imitations. As there is none as good or better.

Price 50 cents.

So there you have it, it wasn't a soda, it was a makeup. I just thought those who ran across these bottles before might be interested to know what they were.

Are you sure the label wasn't an afterthought to the bottle?
I've seen many bottles with fake labels on them as people try to pass on a unembossed bottle for something it isn't.
I tend to believe that this is the case with this bottle.
The label doesn't go with the bottle. At least not that bottle.
I suspect that someone attached the label to the bottle to mislead us.
