What an amazing article! Truly mystifying, sad, and exciting at the same time. Glad those soldiers were finally recovered.

My favorite thing was a comment on the article, though... [:D]

"Upon the discovery of German soldiers, I would assume that the French road workers immediately surrendered."

Great article. The trenches were so extensive that they are everywhere and "artifacts" are being plowed up all the time by farmers.

Surface, quite probably. I've dug French Codds and seen one with Greek writing on it, so why not German ? Or maybe they'd "liberated" it from the British lines !
