Jersey Glass Works large Chemical/Beaker bottle.

One of the other products made at the Jersey Glass works in Jersey City in the 1820s and 30s were industrial chemical vials or bottles.This bottle or beaker came from a collection in North Jersey recently and was in the Newark History Museum before that when it was decommissioned. The bottle is exactly the same color as the salt I just posted a brilliant emerald green almost 7-Up colored. It sports a sheared lip has lots of cold mold whittle and lots of small pot stones. The bottle is tall at 10 inches by 9 inches wide at the base. The bottom has a rough pontil mark with pebbly sand marks through out the rest of the bottom. There is a light grey staing which looks etched into the glass suggesting chemicals were in it.
Thanks for looking, Conner and Jim and any of you other North jersey guys this is the North Jersey glass you guys need to start finding for your collections. It is very rare and it is the oldest produced up your way. There are bright green medicine vials and I am sure pontiled sodas that were made at the glass works.

it seems an odd shape and color for a chemistry flask. More like a wine carafe?
Virtually all the early lab glass I have seen has been clear.

Wistar made some dark green ones Matt along with lightning test glass rods.

It has a remote resemblance to an Erlenmeyer flask but I dont think they were invented until the 1860s.
Looks like it would make a fine carafe.
