My father is currently working at the site of a very very old building. They have been doing some digging lately, and came across a bunch of old bottles. One of the workers had picked them out and sat them in one of the windows. He just came up to me with a small clear bottle, embossed with the words "Yacht Club Salad Dressing." The bottle is in excellent shape. I'm almost positive this came from Chicago. Anyway, this was the only bottle he took! I collect many different things, bottles being something I've always had more on the light side. So to get to what I wanted to ask, do any of you have any information about Yacht Club Salad Dressing? I'd love to buy some other ones since (My Mom works at a place called the Yacht Club.) She'd love them. Oh and I'm making my Dad grab those other bottles if their still there. I'll let you know what he finds!

Welcome to the bottle forums Jacob Moore. The Yacht Club Salad Dressing bottle has a somewhat interesting shape and is pretty common, meaning they are easy to come by if a collector wants one. It is a good start to a collection and well worth researching. Perhaps one or more of our expert researchers, not me, can help. Please stay with us and share pictures if possible. We all like pictures.

Yes! I will have him grab more, and will try and post pics as soon as I can. I'm hoping someone else didn't take them! I never find many bottles, but come across old old beer cans a lot. However I did want to also say, I have private hunting land I'm allowed to go on (A farm) which has a hill that was used as an old dump. It's in the middle of the woods. Years ago as a young child my dad took me over to the hill, which was loaded with old bottles. Some intact, some cracked up. I'm not sure if we still have them, but they were def from the 1910-1930 range. I can distinctly remember an old embossed beer bottle. It's gotta be around here somewhere. But anyway, would it be worth going back to that location? There's also an old car (30's) that is sitting rusted out smack dab in thick woods. The whole place is pretty cool. Has an old Rock Quarry that runs next to some railroad tracks. I find loads of interesting things at the place. Just not sure if it's worth looking for that dump.

It's worth looking and convincing your folks to let you bring it home if you have room to store it. I have done very well over the years caching stuff thrown out by others and selling / trading it. Good Luck! Jim

If the back of the room is as big as I think it is (photo 3) then that's about the size of my room in to shelving unit three from the back wall in, so you see how mine gets filled so quickly--what with a couple built-ins and a bed. I thought mine was full. Heh.

The 1910-1930 dump is definitely worth digging. That's a good era for druggist bottles, milks, sodas, beers, and if it really goes back to 1910 that'll have a lot of good tooled lip stuff as well.
