Ok, took the wicker off. 10 sided. Lettering is lengthwise. TIFFANY&ALLEN, space, STEAM BOTTLING WOWKS, space, PATTERSON, space, N . J ., THIS BOTTLE NOT TO BE SOLD, MINERAL WATER. On the bottom, PAT over 85. Seed bubbles and twist marks in the neck. The WOWKS isn't a typo. The second W slightly overlaps the O. Found a Hutch with similar lettering. Here's a couple links. http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics/Louis_Comfort_Tiffany

I have a feeling this bottle never saw production. There's a pic of a few of the Hutch style bottles that were dug.

So, to make a long story short......the bottle seems to be one of the first works of the famous Louis Tiffany.

The lettering being quite misplaced and the misspelling leads me to believe this was maybe one of his first experimentings in glass bottles. I guess maybe a prototype? Ok, I'll start the bidding over here...can I get 5,000.00?....now 6,500.00? J/K. Sorry, nother flashback.
Later all.

Not sure how rare, but that is some sweet looking glass - definitely worth undressing!

It just goes to show you that you would have never known what you had unless you took the rattan off of it.
I think it's a very rare bottle and I've never seen or heard of one.
What's good about it is that it will appeal to the mineral water collectors.[:D]

Darn, now I have to agonize again about the covered bottle I have. It's a whiskey with an applied top, and it looks like it might have some base embossing. If it does it's probably just an Ellenville or a Whitney so I've always just left the wicker on it, but your hidden treasure here has my curiosity going again [:)]

It would be a good story if it was one of L.C. Tiffany's bottles, but I don't see any connection.

It says that he worked in several glasshouses in New Jersey, Brian, before starting his own glass company.
Around 1870-1880, which seems to be arouns the date of that bottle.
By the way, your birthday is the same as mine.[:D]
