My dad got this bottle at a flea market recently, and asked me to try to find out more about it. There aren't any names, numbers, or other type of identifying markings on the bottle, so we know finding exact info on this bottle probably isn't possible. He told me that based on where the seam ends, it was likely made in the 1800s (or earlier?). What he's most interested in knowing is a more precise date of when it might have been made, and what might have been in the bottle originally. Any ideas?

It's a Demi-John for making and storing wine and it is a very nice one, I would think from the late 1800, maybe 70-80's, color and whittle is great, a very nice piece indeed....Jim

Effingham NH. Where else?
It's a demijohn, it held bulk liquids. More than likely wine, but any liquid could have been stored and transported in it.
Age is between the late 1860s and the early 1890s. It's a very nice color and has great whittle.
EDIT: Epackage beat me to it.

Hi,

Nice demi. Not a rare color and smooth base, probably would sell for $50 to $75 at
auction. Probably came covered with wicker to protect the glass during shipping.

Don't worry about the wicker missing - Doesn't affect value. One member said it best awhile back: "we're Bottle collectors not Basket collectors!" We wanna see that beautiful GLASS! Buying one wickered is like a Christmas present, cuz ya can't wait to rip it off![:)]

Wow. What a great Demi...kudos on the photography and well placed text on photos. I've seen some in less appealing shape at antique shops for $125, so you can get a good idea from that and all the other great input here. It's an eyecatcher alright. Really nice...
