I think it was about 1974 a friend of mine drove his paneled van to Erie PA chasing a girl. Don't know if he hooked up with the girl but I do remember is the bottles. Said he went into an empty lot and hit a privy, got a bunch of aqua Erie blob sodas and a some broken plantations. Said there was tons of old stuff everywhere. Always wanted to dig back East since then. However raising a family and having a career put that on hold, but I never let go of the dream. Fast forward to 2006 and I hooked up with some guys and dug in New York for the first time. Here is a 2008 dig that was a lot of fun. Nine foot stone lined hole with a decent layer satarting of about the early 70's and going to pontils. The first schnapps was whole but the next 12 were broken. Still a decent dig.

these are the dreams I dream all day long after moving out west here. Dont get me wrong, I love digging California, there is amazing glass out here, but out east there is just a lot more to dig... I have privy's all lined up just waiting out there, out here I'll be lucky to get into a handful... and thankful lordy lordy for that!

Thanks for sharing! I live in Erie so it was neat to find your post. I was blessed to find an old dump on my land 50 feet from my back door on a ridge! I know the old farm house just up through the woods is where all the items came from and I know the house was built in 1840 so I would love to dig the old pits. I am friends with the owner so maybe this spring?

Good luck with that, something that old has good potential.
