I had seen these before and always wanted one. I was wondering if this was authentic or a repro. Confused as to why the lip of the lid sits on top of the jar instead of inside.

There is writing on three sides. The other two say:

Hey Ben, wish I had known you wanted one! The one I dug with Ed seemed to be a little less wide, and the lid fit onto a ring in the base. It didn't just sit there. Possibly you have a variant? I think in mint condition they were only worth 50 bucks, so I don't think anyone would reproduce them?

I'll agree with Tigue. I can think of a lot of things to reproduce but that wouldn't be one of them. Perhaps a recreation but not the same name.

very nice ben, notice there no glazing where the lid meets the jar prob where the lable or seal was to keep the lid on nice find!
