Before I ruin it trying to clean it, or throw it out. I don't know anything about bikes but seems like it would be a good original piece to have if that's what it is. Any thoughts.

I'm thinking this is some kind of decoration, and maybe not a bell; is the hole threaded? or maybe there was an iron spike that was there at one time, but has long since rotted away.

Like so much of the shit I find metal detecting... Compelled to pocket it, then scratching my head later.

We are an odd lot..

I've been in the river all year, cleaning out a bag that I was digging with and it was in the bottom of a it. Tomorrow might be the last day for the river getting just a little chilly. It was a banner year for hutches, I'll post the last ones I found after tomorrow.

I don't think it's a bell either, looks like the metal is too thick. I'm guessing it screwed onto the end of something but I'm not sure what.

That's amazing, I didn't know where to start looking or what year, so I was unable to find anything. Once again you're the best. It must be for a fairly old bike. Any more information on it, would be appreciated. Thanks again , mystery solved.
I don't know much about it, I found a few examples by Googling "American flag bike bell" but none of them came with much in the way of information about it.

Thanks for getting back to me, gave me an idea on where to look for more information.
