Today went on my first find. Just started collecting two weeks ago, and today decided that I wanted to see if I could find some bottles on my own.
Since my town is a river town I decided to just walk along some old railroad tracks. At first never really came across anything, finally spotted a broken insulator that I kept because it was the first thing I ever found. Eventually came across a rock slide that had a lot of broken glass and eventually found a small amount of bottles.
The stuff I found is nothing special but it was a great time digging these up and cant wait to go find another area and find some more.../

The dark brown bottle is an old clorox bottle. Kept it cause its pretty neat.

Not sure what these two cylinders are, they are solid and pretty lightweight. At first thought maybe glass the my dad thought maybe they were aluminum. After a bit im just not sure what they are, the marks on the white paper are from me rubbing the cylinder on it.

Hi Tater,

You're off to a great start! Yea once you get going, you will find a ton of those rods in dumps. Sometimes with other materials still attached to them in 4 packs etc... lol. i know it's mostly common stuff, but the milk of mags are always good looking and are great for display/decorating. I generally keep a bunch from sites and use them as gifts or sell them.

Hey, once you get lucky and find some older stuff, you could get real lucky and find some desirable local Iowa bottles. Finding the local history excites me the most.

Best of luck to you and may the bottle gods treat you well! [:D]

nice finds for first outting.

my first outing last spring I think I found some broken Pepsis from the 60s, o pot lid and beer cans.. you;re on a roll already :)

those carbon rods look like a larger battery, how big are they exactly ? we use graphite rods for rocket motors, wonder if a pile of those would be oof any value, might be worth saving from the dumps, too.

keep hunting and most of all ENJOY the hunt :)

Most towns used to dump on the river banks believe it or not. I'd look there.

Went back down along the tracks today. had the girlfriend with me today, and walked farther along the tracks then the last time.
Found some more stuff, a lot of broken bottles that would of been great. Will post some more pictures of what we found later. For now I will post this Coon Hollow Bourbon Whiskey. Pretty neat looking, and will look better cleaned up.
Any info on this would be great../
