Ive been wanting a Success to the Railroad flask to add to my collection but was never willing to pay the big bucks. I saw this one at the Keene NH bottle show and it was priced at half of what they usually go for. I started to walk away and then decided to ask the dealer if he could do any better. He then knocked off another $40.00 which made me think that it was a repro , or damaged. He told me that the flask was genuine with no damage. I have purchased bottles from this dealer before and have always got great deals but never thought I would ever get a deal good enough to walk away with a flask like this. I think it is a GV-8 which is common. I was told it was made between 1843 and 1848. Flask is crude with hardly any high point wear. It doesn't have sharp embossing which I think played a big roll in getting it for the price that I did.
