A mystery to me anyway :) I've got 4 dark green bottles I'm looking to get more information on. All of these have very thick glass with little bubbles throughout, some more than others, really beautiful in natural light! The first two bottles might be an ale and a bitters bottle? Those are the only two in this set I started to get anywhere with but could be completely off. I have photos of all angles of each of these so if it helps just let me know! I'm not even sure if these are before 1900 they just seemed like some of the oldest one's I have so I posted here. I have another set posted in the "after 1900" section also. Appreciate any help, thank you again!

Hi Priscilla.

The first 3 bottles I think would have been for Wine or Whisky and date to around 1900 although number 2 is probably slightly earlier. No 4 was used for Mineral Water and also dates from around 1900 and all bottles appear to be of English origin.

I like that particular style of lady's leg bitters bottle . I only have one of them , can't think of the name of it off hand . Didn't know they were English though .

Please forgive me if this sounds uppity or "know it all". I am really just stating an opinion, what I learned a LONG time ago and am open to correction.

I can tell you for sure #2 is a U.S.A. made "Ladies Leg" bitters. It is not British. True "Ladies Legs" have a neck as long as the body. It appears to be circa 1870 - 1880

#1 is a "Bulge neck", probably British ale or perhaps Irish Whiskey, and NOT a Ladies Leg as called in another recent post. I point out this difference so that we can get our terminology straight. The neck is substatially shorter than the body. Circa 1870 - 1880

#3 looks to me like a beer / ale, British or American, circa 1880 - 1900.

#4 is American Wine, Champaign (sp) or Mineral Water, circa 1880 - 1900

#2 is by far the best of the lot, IMHO.

My penny-worth.

1 Could be British, in which case it's a spirit bottle. Roughly 1900 - 1920.

2 Very unlikely to be British.

3 & 4 could both be British and are types very commonly found here. If they're British then 3 would be a spirit bottle, and 4 probably a mineral water but in the dark green colour could be for an alcoholic drink of some kind. Both would have date ranges of around 1890 - 1920.
