looks like someone started making a nail puller out of it.
Blacksmiths were strange creatures, when they needed a tool they didnt go to the store they just grabbed a hunk of iron and beat it out[;)]

Looks big. What are the dimensions? The two different ends are VERY odd. The nail "holes" must be rusted over. Looks, by size, like an oxen or draft horse shoe. I've found a few, but nothing like yours.

It is just a horse shoe with an extension. The point of the extension goes to the out side so the horse doesn't hurt it's legs. They were common on draft horses.

Great horseshoe. When you get done with the electrolisys cleaning, I recommend spraying it with Extend to prevent the oxidation to reactivate. RED Matthews

That's a very cool shoe, can't wait to see it cleaned up! And I know shoes. The only question is, why are you drinking Pepsi instead of Coke?! [:D]

To Red ginger. You said you know shoes. In assuming your talking about horse shoes. Have you ever seen a two piece brass shoe, where the first layer had the holes for the shoe nails and the second piece locked into the front of the shoe and covered the nails. The back vertical cleats were slotted so they fitted over a center lift on the first layer shoe and then they were riveted with a steel pin to keep the shoe assembled on the horse. The shoe is a work of beauty and made of solid brass. I bought it years ago at a flee market because I was impressed with the workmanship, put into it. I have never been able to identify the shoe, however. RED Matthews
