I have several older bottles that I'm researching. Many of them I have identified, dated and valued, however some I don't know much about. I'm hoping that I can lean on the wisdom of the members here to give me details. The first bottle:Long neck, cork top, octogon bottom half. It does have a cast line through the lip so I know it was machine made.See three attached pics My questions:What came in this bottle? When was it made?Does it have any value, if so estimate...... Once I nail this one down, I will load the next one.

Welcome to the forum Racemaster. What you've got there is an old ketchup bottle. My guess on the date would be 1924, and unfortunately, it's a very common bottle found in most old dumps and has next to no real collectors value. Still a fun piece of history!

Hi, the cork doesn't look original to the bottle. It more a crown top or Kork N Seal type.treasurekidd is right about little or no value to bottle collectors.

I thought it might be ketchup based on it's shape, the top is what threw me off. Thank you very much for the insight.

I think every new collector should go to a Barnes & Nobel and buy a book to read - and read it cover to cover. The book is "Antique Trader BOTTLES Identification & Price Guide". By Michael Polak. After they have done that they will know and comprehend a lot of the whys and therefors of glass bottle collecting. I have collected for over 76 years now and read over a hundred books cover to cover regarding Antique Glass Bottle Making and worked 15 years engineering and creating special metal applications to mold equipment, plus another 22 years selling metals to the worlds glass manufacturers. I am still learning collecting and enjoying the hobby.RED Mahews
