Hello Antique Bottles .net! I found this bottle washed up on a river bank I frequent for artifacts and fossils. I have done as much research as I can but I need the help of a few bottle aficionados to pin down the type of bottle and likely age. My location is coastal Georgia. From my limited research I have gathered the following: The bottle is uniform in shape (except for the inner bottom) leading me to believe it is not free blown. The bottle has no visible seams which I understand is either a turn mold or a dip mold. No visible "markings" or labels. (letters or symbols) the neck has imperfections in it the glass. The bottle is irregular at the bottom on the inside only. (has a slope to it) The bottle is a light green color. The bottle appears to be made of 3 sections when you hold it to a light leading me to believe its a dip mold. BUT I also see very minor horizontal indentations in the glass making it seem like it could be a turn mold... After I took these photos I'm leaning more towards turn mold. You cant really see the 3 sections very well I was talking about, they are more apparent in indoor light.

[attachment=photo 4.JPG]Thanks for your response. Do you know a lot about the various methods used to make these old bottles? Is it in fact a turn mold? What causes the imperfections such as the tilted bottom inside and striations in the neck?

Turn mold it is.. I think it is fascinating that this bottle rolled around on a river bed for 100 years staying completely intact, to wash up when I happened to be looking. Neat.

Well I have severa; turj ,mold bottles that are similar. I also have some similar bottles that were made in a three part mold, which has a dip mold for the bottom part and two parts for the shoulder forming. RED M.

Well now I dont know what to think, because after looking at more pics of turn and dip molds my bottle really looks like it is made of three distinct pieces... there is a clear discrepency in the glass starting at the base of the neck, and another where the thickest section of the bottle starts. Again, it is not visible in this pic I just made the diagram for clarification purposes. When looking at the bottle in indoor light the 3 sections are very apparent. does a dip mold have a pontil scar usually? there is no pontil mark on the bottom of mine.[attachment=bottle sections.jpg]

However in this picture, horizontal lines are apparent which I understand is indicative of a turn mold... [attachment=photo 1 (6).JPG]

It could have been turned in a 3 part mold which may leave the horizontal seam for section 2. I'd have to see it in person before I'd make a call like that.
