I've been asked to sell a bottle for a friend and I'm trying to understand what it is worth. From it's age I would have suspected that evidence of a pontil scar would have bene present, but I think it's been refired, so no evidence remains, however the base is very crude. Its lip is also very crude. It has many little bubbles and retains almost all it's original 'sparkly' gloss. I estimate it to be ~1850's and it's about 12cm tall (5 inches?).

this time I've used a ruler, it's 15cm tall, 7cm wide and 5cm deep (6x2.5x2 inches)

photo 3 (of 4) I love the whittling in this bottle; it's evident in this photo.

last photo. It is probaqbly worth pointing out that I'm not trying to use this forum to sell this bottle; it's almost certainly going to a friend who has deep pockets and also bottles that I want, alternatively it will go to ebay.

Looks like a snuff to me and it looks like it is probable a bit earlier than the 1850s based on the crudeness of the bottle especially the lip treatment.

Shape, colour, lip and base style together make I think that is almost certainly an English bottle.
Wide mouth utility (possibly but not definitely snuff - there are English mustard and other condiment bottles very similar to that), dating about 1800 - 1840. Very nice bottle. Will definitely be pontiled, but some of the later (i.e. early 19th century) English pontils can be very difficult to detect. A very nice bottle, and will probably sell well on eBay. Couldn't tell you how much for, but definitely over $100.
