I thought 1957. I read they changed the O/I logo to this in 1954. However, that does not explain the 3 on the left that should identify it as 1940's?

The date is always on the right of the symbol on Owens Illinois. That is indeed a 1957 bottle and a nice one to boot. I've almost picked up one of these myself, but decided against it. Great find.

If they changed the logo icon in 1954, it stands to reason that they'd still be using it in 1957...
The left hand three is the plant code for O/I's Fairmount, WV facility and has nothing to do with the date the bottle rolled out of there.
