I also posted this in "New to the Collection" but felt it should also be here in the correct category, it's my one and only jar...

I was on ABN and another member contacted me about regarding any history on these jars, he's out in Arizona and is giving a talk on canning jars at a local show so I told him all I could. That got me thinking about the last one I saw on Ebay being sold by the nephew of the original maker, so I decided to send him an email thru Ebay about a month ago and he told me he wouldn't be back to his home in Minnesota until May15th and to contact him then.

I heard from him today and he decided to sell me the only jar he had left in his Minnesota home because it would be great for one to be in a Paterson collection. I fully expected to pay around $150 which is what his last jar sold for, but to my amazement he let me have it for $40, a great addition and the only jar with actual ties to the area.

For those who don't know it here is the writeup from Mr. Stark...

The Stark Jar and clamp were invented and patented by my uncle Albert Stark of Paterson New Jersey in 1923. Patented June 9, 1923 with patent number 1,459,558, about 500 of these were made in 1929 and because of the stock market crash were never commercially sold, they were used by family and friends during 1930's 40's and later.

The jars and lids were made by Wheaton Glass Co. of Millville New Nersey, clamps made by A.F. Murphy Die and Machine Co. of Boston Massachusetts. The springs were made by Lee Spring Co. of Brooklyn New York, rubber rings by Anchor Packing Co. of New York, NY.

Goes to show what a little "thinking outside the box" can do for ones collection....It's been a hell of a month for me when it comes to adding bottles.
