I just acquired this figural from a demolition site in Phila. I believe it is a figural ink. Does anyone know anything about this shoe shaped bottle, was it made at Dyottville?
Hi Tom here is some information that may help you. I think your bottle is a cologne not an ink, as ink bottles have more of, or at least a 45 degree upward angle to the neck and mouth opening. http://www.bottlebooks.com/inkcompanyhistory/shoe_ink.htm http://community-2.webtv.net/ebbtide7/MOREINKSII/
Hey Steve, thanks for the link, your right the shape of the bottle would be a better container for cologne than ink. It seems like it would be more likely to be found on a womans dresser or in her purse rather than on a desk.
Update Tom I am beginning to think it was a nursing bottle....you know dont put your foot in your mouth!! http://www.sha.org/bottle/Typing/food/acme.jpg
Hey Plumbata, the bottle is 3 3/4" long and about 1" at its widest point. It was the only thing found in the attic of an old row house just before demo. I wasn't at the site, the guy I bought it from calls me about every six months and I buy everything he has including boxes of bottles that go right into my recycling bin. The same person talks of finding " a hundred " short dark bottles under the slab of a basement, so when he calls me I drop everything and meet up with him.
Steve thanks for the link, your right it might be a nursing bottle, but I think its probably a cologne.
