My son dug this small porcelain jar. About 2 1/2 in across. No makers mark or anything on base. Any ideas on age or maker. Lucky to find the cover with it. Thanks for looking.

Hey Cliff, The English were shipping that stuff to the US by the ton from the 1870s until just after the 1900s.Apparently people went nuts for the stuff. I have dug toons of the stuff in peices but there have been some spectacular find of that type stuff found in the local area. From tiny snuff bottles to 3ft ginger jars. Some porcelin some pottery.

This one was found localy by a friend. No chips no cracks!

Cap you are right, it was shiped to USA from UK in second half of 19th Century.
If it was a true piece It is called flow blue and was sometimes handpainted (brush strokes) or by transfer. It is quite expensive if.
a true flow blue (and I am not the one to say as it looks confusing with every piece made. It was continued again after the civil war about the 1880's and turn of the century. The later flow blues were semi porceline unlike the earlier ware which
were heavier ironstone(Like yours)Cliff's piece being so white looks like "Delf"
first made in Holland.

Hey David, There was a rash of fakes that were well done 6 or 7 years back but I was lucky enough to be there when mine came out of the ground or I wouldn't have bought it.

Hi David E and Warren

Thanks for the info. Guessin the piece is probably from 1880's as all other stuff from the dump was about that time period. I would think more likely Dutch origin.
Thanks for lookin anyway.
