I'd have to agree with Rick especially if its a dark purple. Although there are some older hobbleskirts with manganese that if left in the sun long enough will turn a very light purple.
Thanks, I didnt think it was a real bottle but it still looks very nice. One more quick question when the bottleis nuked does it make the glass soft? Ill post a pic tonight sometime.
I will be willing to bet it's a ten-pen with an oval slug plate on the shoulder. If it is and I have no idea why, but at least 9 out of 10 of this particular bottle from Cordele is nuked. Which for me is a waste because they are good bottles.
And as far whether or not it hurts the glass I say no it doesn't. It just hurts the value. That is if it has really been nuked. Most bottles made before 1917 had magnesium (if thats speeled right) in the glass, which plays a part in the sun changing the color of glass. But it takes a perty long time for that to happen. So if it's a deep purple it's nuked, any lighter colors could be questioned.
That's my 2 pennies worth, if that's worth anything this day and age!
$35 was a pretty good buy, that bottle usually brings good money in good shape, and as far as if there was a true purple coke bottle I would say no. But was it possible I say sure why not.

Here's a little side line item to the Cordele Coke. I'll have to double check, but I believe the owner of the bottling plant in Cordele had at one time previously owned the plant in Washington, Ga. There is an extremely rare version of this exact slug plate with Washington, Ga. on it. There is only one known (complete bottle, that is), it belongs to a friend of mine. Several years ago, there was a dig in or around Cordele and several broken versions of the Washington bottle were found. It was assumed that the plant owner brought the Washington bottles with him to Cordele, and they ended up broken and buried. Another friend of mine bought a top-less Washington slug plate on ebay for 30 something a couple of years ago. Several were repaired (replaced tops) and sold for more than that on ebay. Here is mine from Cordele...
hey guys purple or not, thats a cool bottle, with a unique shape,im not big on nuked bottles, they must have dug a ton in the 70s and decided to nuke em, anyway thanks for sharing never seen that one mike
