Hi all. Does anyone know how to tell the age of old wells? I have 2 on my property. Both are quarried rock on is about 20' deep. Are they worth trying to pump out? I'll take pics tonight and post. One of them has a ring carved out of a single rock for the top.

Thanks,

Lisa

Hey Lisa, Only a millionare would use quarried stone after about 1890. It took a specialist to cut and lay that stuff. Brick was cheap and easyer to get.

If it has alot of rough chisel marks it is probably from the 1800s.

Thanks Cap. That matches the dump. I've pulled CA Fig Syrup, Pinex, inks, ect... I didn't get done with the Vet until 10:00pm last night I'll get pics tonight. I'm trying to figure out how to get the big ring on my pick-up. It's really cool. I have never seen a a one piece top ring. I wonder if it would be worth pumping the water out and seeing what's in it.

Thats if it doesn't refill faster than you can pump it. My buds and I have pumped a few and it is just like diggin for them, a 50-50 crap shoot. Have found some very nice stuff in the bottoms of wells before. Case gins and onions mostly in my area.
