Preston & Merrill were "culinary chemists" and "manufacturing chemists" and I believe they were the earliest company to sell "baking powder" (they called it yeast powder and were advertising it in 1855). One of the three owners of Preston & Merrill (GD Edmands) was also the treasurer of the Colorado Smelting Company and had a hand in giving the company a presence in the west. That is a neat looking bottle!
