Hi List

I am seeking information on a milk glass sealed bitters - embossed S. H. Rothenberg USA with 'seal' on reverse with 'Patent applied for'. Similar in shape/size/dimensions to the Kantowricz bitters.

Mainly chasing any info on the company, dates of use, rarity, etc.

Thanks,

Dirranbandi

Hi Dirranbandi !
Your Bitters is a label only Bitters . It is scarce in rarity!
It is listed in Ring & Ham's Bitters Bottles as a B 82 L ......Berlin Magen Bitters
// s // PAT. APPLIED FOR // f // S.B. ROTHENBERG / SOLE AGENTS U.S. // f //
S.B. Rothenberg San Francisco
9" x 2 3/4"
Square case gin , Milk Glass , Tooled lip and applied mouth , Embossed and applied seal

Here's a pic of an example with the original label

Hi Brian

Thanks for this info - it certainly looks like it was made to cash in on the popularity of Kantorowicz bitters - very similar bottles, even down to the labels.

Cheers,

Hi Irish

Yes it is unusual for milkglass to have a seal - it's a bit difficult to display though as the seal is on reverse side to embossing, so some peopel think they are looking at a Kantorowicz.

Cheers,

Hi Dirranbandi and Irish,
You should check out the milk glass bitters on this auctio site. Also has a emerald green Kanto bitters. http://www.absenteeauctions.com/glassworks/cgi-bin/CATALL.CGI

If this link doesn't work, have a look in forum/auctions.

Start bids and estimates seem very high in my opinion.

Cheers Alan
