I was searching for information about a bottle and happened upon this document from Pennsylvania. It lists lots of beverage companies in PA being fined for using the "saccharine menace" in their drinks. The year is 1920 and according to statements in this document, there was a sugar shortage which is why the companies were resorting to the use of saccharin to make them sweet enough.

It's interesting to go through some of the list of who was fined for saccharin (alternate pages show the right side of the form). Lots of familiar soda names are mentioned. The document uses both terms "soda" and "pop" throughout. By searching for terms like cola, crush, soda, shortage, homes, etc., one can find lots of interesting lore about sodas and other things from the 1920 period. There are even a couple of jokes in the document.
