Got out on Saturday to a perfect day of digging an old farmhouse that has small dumps around the property. Older shards seemed to be coming from a muddy area around an old stone lined well and this huge rock so we focused on that:

We found a few decent keepers, mostly 20's and 30's though. Then this hearbreaker turns up wedged down in that big rock and I started going crazy! O.P. Keene Masonic/Eagle flask! Only found one other piece to it...[]

Anyone tried to dig any stone lined wells? Are they safe to dig? I feel it could be worth it given the age of the property and how much stuff was near the well..

you probably wont be able to dig it if its wet ontop, that probably means its a live spring. If its dried out, whatever artifacts mixed in the fill will tell you the time period it was filled in. Be careful for stones that wash out, and my advice is to stay away, only because wells were not for throwing bottles and trash in. Good luck on whatever you decide Matty. [:)]
