I just picked up a quart aqua "MASON'S PATENT NOV. 30TH 1858" jar with the hero fruit jar company cross on it. It has the ground lip. On the bottom is another patent date: "PAT NOV 26 67". It has a number "442" in the middle. Was a second patent date a common thing on these jars, or does that make it more desireable?

Most all of the Hero Fruit Jar Co. jars have the second patent date on the bottom. The wording "Mason's Patent Nov. 30th 1858" was used by various fruit jar manufacturers up until around WWI, so the date is not an indication of the age of the jar.
