I've been collecting for a while, and have a lot of knowledge about bottles and how to take care of them, but I need advice from someone about this thing I want to to with some of my straight sided coke bottles. I resently bought an old box full of circa 1910's coca cola bottle caps. I want refil some of my less important ss coke bottles for displaybility, and I want to know if it could stain, damage, or lessen the value of the bottle.

I wouldn't worry about Coke staining a Coke bottle, but if you use a capper to put the caps on there is a chance of the lip of the bottle being damaged in the process, all be it a small chance. I'd do it... But I'm known for bold and daring... Haha

My brother has the old capper we used to use for capping homemade rootbeer.I have run it before and as long as the bottle is placed carefully beneath the capper with the crimper slightly above the cap,the crimping action will not bother the lip at all.

I've used this capper a few times.. it doesn't harm the glass the slightest bit..

Cyber's suggestion would probably work great but I would probably use something like this:

Sometimes the flared part at the bottom of the tooled crown closures are fragile, at least with one of the varieties local to me. The glass is weak for some reason. Also, scratching might occur if the tooled crown doesn't have much of a flare at the bottom and the metal clamp parts slide up. Probably not an issue though.

Any chance we can see some of those early caps? If they really are from the 1910s they may be worth more for resale than your suggested use.
