OK, So here goes, I went to work this morning with a very sore throuhjt and a cough! The guys told me to get the:OIYO&*%^ out of here before they all got sick! So I said OK but what to do? Go home and lie on the couch and watch TV.? NOOOOOO Go check out this new dump! This is a BIG area, at least as big as a football field. there is everything from 1970's or even 80's to pontiled bottoms. This is on privet posted land in the local Shaker village, I have permission to dig[:)] My problem is that it is so spread out and NOT deep (at least so far) I must have dug 50 broken pontiled bases but nothing whole in that area, After about 1 1/2 to 2' it turns to just dirt. nothing else. There is a HUGE pild of melted moltin whatever it is. Maybe left over from the foundry I don't know. I found 1 nice 1/2 pint local milk and 1/2 dozen keepers "at least for me" but all the keepers are 1900 or a bit newer! I know there is a honey hole here somewhere. Maybe someone with more digging experience will share there thoughts or if you are in N.E. would like to come on a dig ! Here are a few pictures, I hope I did this right! My memory card got full and I didn't have my spare with me

OK, Last picture. Like I said my memory card was full and I really was not feeling all that well. Oh Ya and there was this really mad Hawk that kept buzzing me. He must not have wanted to catch my sore throught either! So really guys (and Gals) I need advice. There has to be more here, This is I guess the 4th country or farm dump I have found and they are all like this around here. No depth It is Massachusetts so there is LOTS of rocks. and a wide range date of glass. And with all kidding aside I am looking for digging partners. I have posted there to But guys that said they were interested will not return my Emails now! So Iguess this "Sick day" was a good day after all! Mike

Hi Mike, I have encountered dumps like that...they can drive you insane! You'll just have to move around and dig holes in different places. Also, I would dig down a foot or two below the fresh ground under the ash, as it may be a cap that was placed over an older layer. Not always, but sometimes that is the case. It might take some time, work and a lot of patience, but I think it should pay off. I hope you feel better, sore throats suck! If I was closer, I'd be happy to join you, but I'm in the middle of Pennsylvania [>:] Good luck. Jim

Hey Mike, Like Jim said it will be alot of work and there may be a cap. The only thing to do is turn the ground throughly. As indicated by the later bottles the dump may have been covered over but the locals just kept dumping. get yourself a probe and check out what in underneath.

Good Luck and hope you feel better soon.

Looks like there's alot of pines in the area. Are they in rows? If so, they might have dozed it before planting. Look for the biggest tree that's not a pine and check around it's base. If there is any sort of creek or drainage, check the banks. If you stand back and look at the area from a distance, look for differences in the terrain, humps or dips in the ground could be deposits. Good luck, I've been working a 15 acre dump like that for awhile now, and sometimes it's very frustrating.
