Here's a bottle that must have left the original purchaser still thirsty. It's about 6-1/2 inches long and thick as heck. Unmarked it kind of reminds me of a fire extinguisher ball I once saw, but about 1/4 the size.

No, its a HUGE stopper.[;)] Could also be a piece of ground glass chemistry gear I suppose. Hard to tell from a photo.

Here's a pic of the lip.

I'm starting to wonder if it's maybe an old light bulb with the guts taken out???

Hello Matty Matt, I am sure it is a stopper for an early decanter. A neat one at that. I assume it is hollow - is that correct? Looking at the last picture it is obvious we are seeing where the blowpipe was cracked off. Good find. Please give us the measurements of the tapered end as close as you can tell without micrometers. Maybe you have a plastic drafting template, that is what I use. RED Matthews

Hi Red Matthews,

Holy buckets I'm trying to imagine what the bottle looked like this thing came from.

Yep, it's hollow.

I don't have a drafting template (are you referring to those plastic sheets that have circles and triangles?)

I compared the very tip of the "mouth" where the opening is to a U.S. quarter and it's almost exactly the same size. I'm not sure if that helps though.

Thanks,

Matty
