Does anyone know what those gray colored solid cylinders with protruding flat ends on each side are that often turn up in numerous quantities while digging? Perhaps made of graphite? They are approximately 8" long with the circumference of about a silver dollar. Sorry don't have a picture.

Probably the centres of old batteries. I know that the centres of old batteries are cylindrical and made of graphite and often turn up while digging.

I am newer to this hobby; I go metal detecting in my yard and I have found a couple of these too. I have no clue what they are either.
