square shaped clear canning jar

I received a square shaped glass canning jar with two piece lid with the marking DES PAT 82881" on the bottom. I was told it was very old possibly 1800"s, a family heirloom from my Husband's family. Can any one give me information on this please. Just curious as to how old it really is.

You can see your design was registered between 1930-1931

Thank you very much. Some "family heirlooms" we were given in the past were almost brand new. I appreciate the information. We will pass it down to our Daughter.
