I know it is an insulator, I don't know what kind.

It is a suspension insulator. That small size was usually used as a dead end at the end of a line.

Yup, it's a dead end. The PINCO mark on the cap is the trade name for Porcelain Insulator Corp. in Lima, N.Y. The company's been in business since 1921 but I'd guess this one is probably after WWII.
