Summers almost over

Here is a preview of my winter plans up here in Maine.

Do you have to be carefull in winter because of the cold and glass? I mean doesnt it break alot easier nin the cold? Great bottles by the way!

Absolutely... We only dig DEEP dumps which have newer stuff in the first 3 feet. That way we are only breaking screw caps. Usually the ground only freezes 1-2 feet deep. After that its soft digging with nice older stuff. []

Ehh..you don't break the screw tops on purpose, do you?

We try not too. This dump had a 2' gravel cap before we hit bottles, so nothing broke.

Other times we dig the first 5' in the fall before it freezes.

You never know what will come out, could be a rare fruit jar or milk.

Try putting black plastic over your dig site before the first frost. It'll cut down on snow removal and should minimize the frost depth. Let us know how it works for you. Swiz
