the "H" casing is a Henry....the man who in vented the winchester rifle. It looks to be at the civil war peroid. I have dug henry casings like yours in civil war camps and battlefields

Not sure what the shaped glass panel goes to, but I always keep them when intact. The glass is usually thick and a lot of times sick. I always figured they were small windows, like in a front door or paneled window. Never have really found out for sure? One of the things I think is cool about them is how the edges are knapped... similar to flint. The few I have are square.

Chris....These knapped edges were "nibbled" off with special glass working pliers....we still use a very similar tool nowadays in the glass biz...

From the glass panels I have found, most of them were mirrors at one point, but the metal backing had fallen off from being in the ground. I've also seen a couple with photos stuck to the back.
