Here is the Mckearin numbered GXIV-1 Travelers Companion quart sized super dark olive amber colored flask.Light can barley penetrate and escape it.The flask was made according to Van Rennselaer via Mckearin's book at the Waterford New Jersey glass works ....................However being somewhat of a novice on New Jersey glass, this flask is as much New Jersey made as Florida has penguins. It is clearly a Connecticut made flask a very unique almost one of a kind, there are two other very similar flasks the GXIV-2 and 3 from Ravenna Ohio but they are aqua to blue aqua in color.I like this flask as it is very sturdy, thick and the Sheaf of wheat is almost three dimensional in look.If I were to guess the flasks age I would say it was in the 1845 to 1860 time frame as America was proudly proclaiming to be the worlds largest harvester of Wheat and Rye.In my opinion the flask is a Connecticut made flask because of the texture and color of the glass.Do you have this one also Mike,Jeff anyone else?

The only way this flask was made in New Jersey was...........................

A. someone borrowed the mold in New Jersey
B. someone borrowed the mold in New Jersey and imported sand from Connecticut
C. Van Rennselaer was inebriated and because he was inebriated he was color blind
D. All of the above

If you answered D. you are correct all of the above.Seriously the flask is absolutely a New England Product and a nice one at that.

Steve,...love your bottle, but if I had my 'druthers' I've ALWAYS wanted a aqua blue Traveler's companion, from (I think) Lockport...Do you happen to know the "G" designation for that one? Just the "Traveler's Companion" on one side, and the star motiff on the other,...(Although the 'railroad guide' version is pretty cool too.)

That would be the GXIV-6 Joe, It is listed as rare and in Mckearins group C as one of the most desirable bottles. The bottle was made in Lockport. There seems to be a discrepancy about just how rare though as Van Rennselaer lists it as scarce,( He is also the one that stated that the bottle I am showing was made in New Jersey)..............Can he be trusted.................. I am just kidding as he was a magnificent collector and a wealth of knowledge and are'nt we all entitled to make a few mistakes in our lifetime.
