We headed out this morning to dig a couple crunchy pits already at a house where we were told we could dig anytime as long as we let him know so the dogs could be taken in..I told him to expect us on Saturday morning, needless to say, I don't think this fella has seen a Saturday morning in a long time. They were home but not answering the door, which didn't suprise me because I had knocked on it, on and off for 4 yrs for permission before catching him BBQin g last week.[] We have a bunch of pits lined up in this town but most are big and with temps in the 90's I really wasn't in the mood and wanted one on the N. side where sandy soil keeps the pits under 8 ft..In killing time hoping Mr. Natty Light would wake up we got a couple more permission at pre 1860 homes and probed some more deep holes, a couple felt good and old and were hard to walk away from, for now.. Finally we got a permission where I could hit a crunchy layer with the 8 footer, and we were tired of waiting so we threw the canvas and started throwing dirt. The pit ended up being to the owners son's house under the fence so it was a bonus being he didn't mind us tunneling. It only went about 7 ft. deep and didn't have alot of bottles in it but about half were embossed so it was worth digging.
