Trixie Hair Oil??

Found this bottle the other day and I can't find any info about it. It's embossed with Trixie Hair Oil Prepard By The Howard Drug & Medicine Co Baltimore Md. I think it's from the early 1900's but I can't find anything about Trixie Oil or Howard Drug and Medicine Co. Thanks for any help.

I'm not finding much, either. Here's Howard's Rheumatic Cure from Matt's Place. You might alert him to this Trixie, I'd think he'd like to know.

""DR. WINSLOW'S / SARSAPARILLA COMPOUND / AND IODIDE POTASH / THE HOWARD DRUG AND MEDICINE CO. / BALTIMORE, MD." Medicine Bottle, America. 1875-1895. Rectangular with three indented panels, clear, tooled top with round band and lower flare lip - smooth base, ht. 9 inches; (lightly professionally cleaned to original luster). Looks to be made of flint glass and has a curve on one side because the glass blower didn't completely fill the mold. The embossing is strong." From.

"Hello, Saw your web page and thought I might ask for some help with an identification. I'm an archaeologist working at Historic St. Mary's City, Maryland. We are writing a report on some excavations at St. Mary's College of Maryland, a women's seminary founded in 1840. Several fragments of clear bottle glass seem to spell out MALTO ?? BEEF, IRON ? WINEBALT ? . . . Are you familiar with this bottle? I believe it is MALTO IRON TONIC CO. of BALTO. & LOUISVILLE, but haven't found any info on dating it. Other bottles from the layer seem to indicate a date range of 1876-1890. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Don Winter

I found a reference to this bottle in Fike's Bottle Book. listing it as clear, 8 3/16 x 3 1/4 x2 1/16...Malto Iron Tonic Co. Balto. & Louisville.. G.L. Co. on the base. I checked various drug catalogs 1888 and 1905 no listing but in the 1915 Druggist Circular, I found "Malto Iron", the manufacturer was listed as Howard Drug & Medicine Co., 308-310 S. Hanover St., Baltimore, MD. Given that neither you nor Fike indicate if the bottle is machine made or not, I speculate that because of its clear color it is late 19th century and the above listing is probably your bottle. The book lists a similar one as rare, but the shape the book says is called an "Erie oval" Not sure what that means, but the bottle pictured certainly does not look oval shaped at all.

That's interesting. I found mention of an "Erie oval," in a variety of sizes, in an old Dominion Glass Catalog. Unillustrated, to be sure. [8D] Does anyone have an old Dominion catalog?

Perhaps, and I'm supposing up a storm, it might be a Dominion proprietary name for a similar form called by different names by other glass houses, a la the Millville Round.
