Does anyone know what the symbol at the bottom of this picture is? It is 1 of 2 identical bottles I found in the lying on the ground in the woods on the farm my mom and 8 siblings grew up on in the 1930s and 40s. I would love to know if they date back to that time. The other markings on this one are 79, B18, and S. The other bottle's are 78, an underlined 1, 5 and an anchor in a square. The bottles are still capped and have liquod in them.

Welcome to the forum! I assume these bottles were left there in 1979 based on the 78 and 79 markings. Looks like they've got some horrible rancid 1970s beer in them still! The mark on the base is from the Thatcher Glass Manufacturing Co.

Thanks. I looked up Thatcher logos and it looks like a big T with an m to the left and c to the right. On the bottle is too small to see what it is. Websites showing this logo say it was used 1983-1985 but 1978/1979 is close enough to know these bottles were not from the 30s and 40s when my mom was growing up on that farm as I had hoped. So I am grateful for your response. Exact year is unnecessary.

Keep scratching, probing and digging--Mom and her parents must have discarded some evidence of their tenure on the land there!

Go back far enough and we all land in Africa--that should put things into perspective despite politics!
